Join us in Lincoln Park at 9:30 am on Oct. 14 at the North Avenue overpass at the Lakefront Trail to commemorate the lives of pedestrians and bicyclists who have been killed in traffic in Northeast Illinois.
The third annual Herron Memorial Ride & Walk is a family-themed, donation-based event that supports the unique, educational after-school Build and Ride program for at-risk Chicago Public Schools students. Donations can also be directed toward Northwest Chicago Drive with Care, a campaign to stigmatize and stop reckless driving.

For the past two years, the Herron Memorial Ride & Walk has gathered bicyclists and walkers to raise public awareness of the tragedy of pedestrian and bicycling deaths, and to transform that tragedy into something that can help build the community and manage grief. In 2006, the second annual Herron Ride & Walk drew people from around the country and partnered with the Chicago Park District’s Green Deeds program to plan a symbolic apple serviceberry tree in Lincoln Park near the North Avenue pedestrian bridge.
Help build a legacy of safe youth bicycling. Donate to the Dick Herron Memorial Fund by calling or e-mailing Arline Welty, director of development, at 312-427-3325, ext. 237.
