Principal Stops Traffic

“Let them out - we’re walking to school today!”

When Beth Wilson, principal of Blue Island’s Paul Revere Elementary School, began stopping cars along the route to her school, people listened.

A new Walking School Bus kicked off at Paul Revere on April 18. Chicagoland Bicycle Federation’s Safe Routes to School program helped organize the event, with school and police officials in attendance.

But when only one student arrived at the beginning of the route, principal Wilson took action. As she saw vehicle after vehicle passing by with her students inside for the ride to school, Wilson waved parents over. By the time the ‘bus’ arrived at the school, the group had grown to more than 25 kids and adults. By April 30, the effort had grown to 60 participants. Way to go, principal!
