Rolling Out the Red Carpet for Bike Commuters
Hospitality stations at four Chicago locations

"Another working day has ended.
Only the rush hour hell to face.
Packed like lemmings into shiny metal boxes.
Contestants in a suicidal race."
–The Police (“Synchronicity 2”)

Bike commuters know exactly what Sting is singing about. But, what would it take to make your bike commute even better?

What if there were a stop along the route where you could pick up a quick cup of joe without having to lock up your bike? Where you could chat with other bike commuters and have your bike checked by a qualified mechanic while you enter a free drawing for prizes? Maybe this stop could also serve breakfast treats and free Chicago bike maps.

Well dream no further, because the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation offers these services with special Bicycle Commuter Stations at four high-traffic locations during Chicago Bike to Work Week June 12 to 16.

The effort is part of CBF’s mission to promote the use of bicycles. Experts on bike commuting will staff the stations, alongside Mayor Daley’s Bicycling Ambassadors. The week culminates with a rally in Daley Plaza where Mayor Richard Daley usually speaks.

Bike to Work Week coincides with the Chicagoland Commuter Challenge, in which companies and organizations compete to put the most bike commuters on the road during the week. To enter, go to the Commuter Challenge homepage or contact Randy Warren at (312) 427-3325, ext. 221.

Learn how to bike to work and school noon to 1 p.m. June 5 in the Prima Vera Room at the Fairmont Chicago, 200 N. Columbus Dr. Presented by the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation, this class is ideal for anyone wanting to improve their existing bike commutes.
