The Consortium to Lower Obesity in Chicago's Children awarded $12,500 to the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation for Go Healthy!, an individualized travel-marketing program modeled after TravelSmart. Go Healthy! gives families the personalized tools they need to replace sedentary travel with active travel: bicycling, walking and transit. CBF will run a pilot program in Logan Square to test our materials and approach. The grant also enables CBF to secure Institutional Review Board certification, which will allow us to test the health benefits of using walking, bicycling and transit.

The Illinois Prairie Path/Great Western Trail recently was awarded a $52,000 package of amenities from Dasani bottled water. Dasani is partnering with Rails to Trails Conservancy to promote bicycling in eight markets nationwide, under a campaign titled, “Dasani Hits the Trails.” The company also organized the Dasani Blue Bikes Festival on DuPage County Bike Day. The June 25 festival featured a dedication of the amenities, including 20 bike lockers and a community bike rental service next to the Villa Park Historical Museum at Villa Avenue.

So, it’s 5 p.m. in the Loop and you’d rather be in Chambord, sipping wine by the roadside and watching the Tour de France. What to do? Head over to Brasserie Jo, 59 W. Hubbard St., where every evening of Le Tour (that’s July 2 to 24), Chef J. Joho offers special menu items and drinks from each region of the route. Patrons can win dinner by submitting a guess for the winner of the next day's stage. At the end of the race, all daily contest entries qualify to win a cocktail party, Goose Island beer, or a "Honker’s Ale" bike. Mention Chicagoland Bicycle Federation membership to receive a complimentary appetizer. For information, call (312) 595-0800.
