Suburban Bike Plans Undergo Update

Each section of the Chicago region has its own bike plan, a map of recommended routes, potential trail projects and road improvements that provides guidance to communities, counties, and the Illinois Department of Transportation on accommodating bikes.

But the fast-growing suburban regions pretty quickly fall out of synch with the maps used to create the plans just a few years ago. Chicago Metropolitan Area Planning has awarded six of its sub-councils - associations of towns responsible for their areas' transportation plans - with funding to update their bike plans, including plans for the south suburbs, west central suburbs, north shore/northwest suburbs, and Dupage, Kane, and McHenry Counties. CMAP wants the plan updates by June 2007.
