Green Bike Lanes Installed throughout Chicago

…and speaking of green....

Be on the lookout for the Chicago’s new green bike lanes. Seeking to repeat the success of cities like Portland, the City is testing colored bike lanes at eight locations. They are intended to alert motorists and bicyclists of conflict areas at intersections and assign right-of-way to bicyclists, therefore increasing safety. These eight pilot locations are part of the Chicago Bike 2015 Plan, which aims to convert 5 percent of all trips under 5 miles to bicycle by 2015.

Green bike lanes are being installed throughout Chicago this summer.

All of the colored bike lanes will be installed by July 2007. Here’s where you can find them —
Dearborn Street heading north at Chicago Avenue
Elston Avenue heading north and south at Division Street
Halsted Street heading south at Roosevelt Road
Lincoln Avenue heading south at Webster Avenue
Milwaukee Avenue heading south at Augusta Boulevard
Roosevelt Road heading east and west at Damen Avenue
