Riding, rocking and saving the planet

What better way to celebrate Mother Earth than taking her out for a night on the town?

Head to the Double Door in Chicago on April 20 for an Earth Day concert benefiting the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation.

Chicago-based Sophic Records presents the first annual Rock and Ride Earth Day Benefit, featuring four local musicians — Brian Mazzaferri, Breaker’s Broken, The Johns and Packy Lundholm.

Mazzaferri’s sound has been called a cross between Rufus Wainwright and Joni Mitchell, with a dash of Chris Thile thrown in for good measure. His recent debut CD “All Roads Lead to Roads” was heralded by Lumino Magazine as “a great effort filled with beautiful melodies and excellent musicianship”.

Three-man Breaker’s Broken describe their band as “Coldplay meets Red Hot Chili Peppers after hanging out with U2 and John Mayer.”

Indie/electro/folk band The Johns is a Chicago music-scene darling with a new album due out in April.

Lundholm’s expert one-man-band electronic looping recently earned him a set with the father of looping, Jon Brion. Lundholm’s set includes new twists on classics such as “And Your Bird Can Sing,” as well as modern hits and original songs.

Tickets are $8 for Chicagoland Bicycle Federation members and $10 for non-members at www.ticketmaster.com.
