But why would I want a bike plan?

Residents — What resident wouldn’t want to live in a lively community that is teeming with life and activity? Think of kids getting around your community safely: more exercise and independence for them and less carpooling time for you.

Elected officials — More and more elected officials and village hall staff are looking to bikes as a way to relieve congestion, appeal to potential residents in this competitive real estate market, and improve safety on the roads. Not to mention the money: communities with bicycle plans are more likely to get grant dollars for their projects.

Local businesses — It quickly becomes evident that residents on bikes are more likely to shop locally. That means more business for you. Plus, more customers on bikes means freed up parking spots for those who choose to drive.

So, of course you want one — The Chicagoland Bicycle Federation is a leading expert on bike plans. Our staff has created plans for all kinds of communities, from the City of Chicago, to the Village of Homewood. So, whether your city is 3 million or 30,000 people, find out how you can bring a bike plan to your community by contacting your community coordinator:
