Riding a bicycle is a healthy, non-polluting, inexpensive,
and fun way to get to work.

At a time when ozone action days are becoming more frequent, automotive traffic jams are costing Chicago-area businesses an estimated $4 billion a year, asthma rates are skyrocketing, and Americans are some of the most sedentary people on the planet, bicycle commuting just plain makes sense.

This guide was written to help you encourage bicycle commuting in your workplace. It includes answers to common questions, talking points to help you get company resources and decision makers involved, and ideas and examples that have been successful at other companies. You’ll also find a list of resources in the back.

The Chicagoland Bicycle Federation is a non-profit bicycling advocacy group committed to making Chicago communities more livable. We do this by encouraging use of the bicycle as an energy-efficient, economical, and nonpolluting form of transportation and as a healthful and enjoyable form of recreation.
