Hello fellow and future riders!
An invitation from a cyclist — Mayor Richard M. Daley
Congratulations on your choice to live and study in a world-class city by attending school in Chicago.
With a network of over 100 miles of bike lanes, more than 250 miles of signed bike routes and more than 9,000 bicycle parking racks, Chicago is making great strides towards my goal of becoming the most bicycle-friendly city in the United States. I invite you to take a few moments to fill out this short survey. Your answers will allow us to better understand the needs and experiences of student cyclists and help shape the future of bicycling in Chicago.

Mayor

Chicago is the best big city in the United States for bicycling, according to the November 2001 issue of Bicycling magazine. The world's largest bicycling magazine wrote, "Chicago has made incredible strides to become a great cycling town." A few of these important steps include:
- Over 8,000 bike racks installed--more than any other U.S. city
- More than 100 miles of bikeways
- Bike Chicago--the city's summer-long celebration of cycling
- Bike the Drive--18,000 cyclists-and no cars-on Lake Shore Drive
- Lakefront Trail--26 miles of scenic riding
- CTA Bike & Ride--go farther
Why not get out and try getting around by bike? There's a lot of Chicago to explore--why not have more fun getting where you're going?

FREE STUFF
The City of Chicago offers lots of free information on riding bikes in the city. Our "Safe Bicycling in Chicago" booklet is packed with helpful information, such as how to handle busy intersections, rude motorists, and aggressive dogs. Chapters are devoted to bike helmets, maintenance, and preventing bike theft. The goal is to help new cyclists feel more confident and experienced cyclists ride more safely.
Additional great bicycling information is available from the City of Chicago and the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation, such as the free Chicago Bike Map that shows bike paths, recommended routes, Chicago neighborhoods and more. Look for free copies of these publications on campus, stop by your local bike shop or contact:
