What is the Student Bikes Project?

Safe, reliable, convenient, and affordable transportation is a must for all students. Bicycles fill this need while being socially and environmentally friendly, providing health and fitness benefits, and most of all-being fun.

The City of Chicago recognized that students need a resource for information on cycling in the city and responded with this Student Cycling project. We aim to be a resource to student cyclists as well as the universities they attend. Utilizing a variety of formats including classes, workshops and other events, we provide materials and knowledge to encourage safe cycling for transportation.

Interns at DePaul, the University of Chicago, Loyola, and the University of Illinois at Chicago help us understand the unique nature of each campus and how to best meet the needs of the school and it's students. We invite input from students and universities. Our goal is to help encourage and assist students to choose bicycling as their transportation choice. The Chicagoland Bicycle Federation is a consultant to the City managing this project. The Chicagoland Bicycle Federation (CBF) is a non-profit, public interest organization, that works to make conditions better for people who bicycle, thereby making Chicagoland a better place to live, work, and play.
